<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><b>GANGTOK,:</b><span style="font-family:"Bookman Old Style",serif"> The
Sikkim State branch of Indian Medical Association (IMA) celebrated National
Doctor’s Day with a plantation programme at Helen Lepcha Sikkim Government
Medical College in Gangtok today. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-family:"Bookman Old Style",serif">Governor
Om Prakash Mathur graced the occasion and participated in the plantation
programme by planting Japanese Sakura Cherry sapling in the premises of college,
informs a Lok Bhavan release.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-family:"Bookman Old Style",serif">Addressing
the gathering, the Governor extended his warm greetings and convey his best
wishes. He said, “Doctors are the true guardians of humanity, dedicating their
lives to healing, serving, bringing hope to every patient and continue to
safeguard the health and well-being of millions across the country.”<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-family:"Bookman Old Style",serif">The
Governor stated that the establishment of Helen Lepcha Sikkim Government
Medical College as a historic milestone for the State and expressed remarked
that the college will not only strengthen healthcare and medical education in
Sikkim but will also serve the healthcare needs of the region in the years to
come.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-family:"Bookman Old Style",serif">Appreciating
the IMA Sikkim State Branch for organising plantation drive on the occasion of
Doctor's Day and said, "Tree plantation on Doctor's Day extends far beyond
symbolism, it represents a powerful prescription for planetary and human
health. As we honour healthcare professionals who dedicate their lives to
healing, we must recognize that trees serve as nature's doctors, providing
essential health benefits to everyone."<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-family:"Bookman Old Style",serif">The
programme was attended by area MLA Kala Rai, Department of AYUSH advisor,
Health department chairman Phurba Rinzing Sherpa, STNM Hospital medical
superintendent, members of the IMA Sikkim branch, doctors and other guests.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p>
</p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-family:"Bookman Old Style",serif">On
the occasion, the Governor also paid floral tributes to Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy,
a physician and former Chief Minister of West Bengal, on whose birthday the
National Doctors' Day is celebrated annually on July 1.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
