SHDB discusses proposed residential apartment project at 6th Mile Tadong

<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:&quot;Bookman Old Style&quot;,serif">GANGTOK,:</span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:&quot;Bookman Old Style&quot;,serif"> Sikkim Housing and Development Board (SHDB) on Wednesday discussed a proposal for construction of residential apartments at 6th Mile, Tadong, as part of its efforts to address the growing demand for planned housing in the State.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:&quot;Bookman Old Style&quot;,serif">The proposal was presented by SHDB secretary Rajesh Pradhan at a board meeting chaired by SHDB chairman Karma Tashi Bhutia, where members deliberated on the proposed project including planning, financial viability, construction strategy and its implementation framework, the board said in a press release.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:&quot;Bookman Old Style&quot;,serif">“The proposed housing project is expected to contribute not only towards meeting the increasing demand for organised residential accommodation but also towards promoting more systematic and sustainable urban development in and around Gangtok,” it said.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:&quot;Bookman Old Style&quot;,serif">The board emphasised that the project should be guided by affordability, quality, sustainability and long-term financial viability.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:&quot;Bookman Old Style&quot;,serif">The initiative is also expected to strengthen housing infrastructure and contribute to the development of more planned and resilient urban neighbourhoods in the State.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p> </p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:&quot;Bookman Old Style&quot;,serif">The board also viewed the proposed project as an opportunity to revitalise and strengthen the institutional and financial capacity of the Sikkim Housing and Development Board, the statement said.&nbsp;<o:p></o:p></span></p>
