<p><b>GYALSHING,(IPR):</b> The first preparatory meeting for the annual holy festival of Bhumchu at Tashiding Monastery was convened Saturday at the conference hall of the District Administrative Centre (DAC), Gyalshing.</p><p>The meeting was chaired by Tenzing D Denzongpa, District Collector Gyalshing, and was attended by Birendra Gurung, Zilla member; Namgay Bhutia CMO Gyalshing; Bikash Pradhan, SE (Roads & Bridges); CS Limboo SDM Yuksam; Laden Bhutia, joint director, Cooperation department; Uttam Basnet, DE (Roads & Bridges); Kalzang T Bhutia DE (Power); Sonam G Bhutia, panchayat president, RS Bhutia, member of the Gumpa Committee; and officers from Fire & Emergency Services, Excise, Urban Development, Tourism, and other line departments.</p><p>The meeting focused on essential preparations for the smooth conduct of the festival, with specific responsibilities allocated to concerned departments and the organising committee.</p><p>Addressing the house, the District Collector, Gyalshing assured full administrative support and briefed participants on the significance of the Bhumchu ceremony, noting the large numbers of devotees each year. He highlighted priority areas requiring departmental intervention and outlined key issues to be addressed for the convenience and safety of devotees.</p><p>With regard to security and law enforcement, discussions were held on the deployment of forces to manage traffic congestion, secure critical areas, and maintain law and order during the festival. Emphasis was also laid on cleanliness and hygiene.</p><p>Stressing sustainability, the District Collector directed officers, zilla panchayats, and gram panchayats to sensitise stall operators on hygiene, cleanliness, and adherence to a zero-waste policy. The use and sale of plastic items within the festival premises will be strictly prohibited. The Roads, PHE, and Power departments were instructed to extend full cooperation and necessary support.</p><p>The meeting also deliberated on arrangements for light installations, tents, drinking water and garbage disposal during and after the festival. A comprehensive garbage management plan was discussed to ensure proper waste collection and disposal, minimising environmental impact and maintaining cleanliness throughout the celebrations.</p><p>As part of the preparatory measures, a joint spot verification and a follow-up meeting has been scheduled for February 26.</p><div><br></div>
