<p><b>PAKYONG,:</b> Nepali Sanskriti Parishad, Sikkim Branch, celebrated its 100th Chapter of Culture Manthan and Annual Festival on Tuesday at the Pakyong ADC programme hall.</p><p>Education minister Raju Basnet attended the programme as the chief guest. Also present were Chief Minister’s Advisor Bishnu Kumar Khatiwada, OSDs, panchayat members and members of the Nepali Sanskriti Parishad, Sikkim Branch.</p><p>The programme began with a welcome address by Thaman Nawbag, coordinator of the Parishad, followed by a brief overview of the organisation by Uday Sharma, a member of the Parishad.</p><p>In his address, Ananta Bhandari, president of the Nepali Sanskriti Parishad, Sikkim Branch, expressed happiness on the successful completion of the 100th edition of Culture Manthan and the annual festival. He said the main objective of the Parishad is to preserve the culture, traditions and language of the Nepali-speaking community and various castes, and to encourage the younger generation to uphold their heritage. He added that although the organisation faced challenges in its early days, it continued to organise literary programmes and has now grown in membership and strength.</p><p>Congratulating the Parishad, the chief guest, minister Raju Basnet, lauded its continued efforts in organising Culture Manthan and educating the youth about Nepali traditions, culture and language. He highlighted the State government’s initiatives to preserve Sikkimese culture and language, including observing Thursdays as Traditional Dress Day and issuing government notifications in the Nepali language. He further expressed hope that official notices would also be published in other sub-languages in the future.</p><p>On the occasion, lifetime members were presented with membership certificates by the chief guest. Six personalities who have contributed in various fields towards the promotion of Nepali language, culture and traditions were felicitated with citations, souvenirs and shawls. Coordinators of the Parishad’s Sikkim Branch were also honoured with khadas and citations.</p><p>Students of Dikling Senior Secondary School, Linkey, Gangtok, presented a folk dance. A children’s speech competition was also organised, and winners were awarded cash prizes and trophies.</p><div><br></div>
