<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><b>GANGTOK,:</b><span style="font-family:"Bookman Old Style",serif"> Two panchayats from Soreng district were honoured at the national Jal Mahotsav event, organized by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation under Ministry of Jal Shakti, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi today.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-family:"Bookman Old Style",serif">The event had the presence of the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, who recognised grassroots leaders including Sikkim panchayats for their exemplary performance in strengthening rural drinking water systems under Jal Jeevan Mission, which aims to ensure functional household tap connections and sustainable drinking water supply in rural areas.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-family:"Bookman Old Style",serif">Sheela Subba, panchayat president of Rumbuk Gram Panchayat Unit (GPU), received an award for establishing a successful revenue model for the operation and maintenance of village water supply systems. Her initiative has demonstrated how community-led financial sustainability can ensure long-term functionality and reliability of rural drinking water infrastructure, informs a press release.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-family:"Bookman Old Style",serif">Similarly, Puspa Century, panchayat president of Upper Thambong GPU, was awarded in the category of “Successful 24x7 Rural Water Supply.” Her efforts have ensured continuous and reliable drinking water access to households in the area, setting a benchmark for other rural local bodies.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-family:"Bookman Old Style",serif">Harsha Kumar Chettri, panchayat president of Dodak GPU, also attended the event and showcased the district’s continued progress in strengthening rural water supply systems.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-family:"Bookman Old Style",serif">The Sikkim delegation also included Rural Development secretary Anil Raj Rai, principal chief engineer Sukbir Subba, chief engineer (Planning) Deepak Singh, chief engineer (S/W) Neelam Rai and assistant director (IT) Ravi Sharma.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-family:"Bookman Old Style",serif">The event was also attended by C. R. Paatil, Union Minister of Jal Shakti; V.
