<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span lang="EN-IN" style="font-family:"Bookman Old Style","serif""><b>GANGTOK,:</b> The Press Club of Sikkim (PCS) has expressed profound grief over the passing of senior poet, journalist, and language activist PadamChettri, who breathed his last at his residence in Durgagadhi, Siliguri on Thursday.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span lang="EN-IN" style="font-family:"Bookman Old Style","serif"">He had been undergoing treatment after suffering from paralysis for the past six months.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span lang="EN-IN" style="font-family:"Bookman Old Style","serif"">Late PadamChettri was a respected figure in the field of journalism and Nepali literature, known for his deep commitment to language and literary expression. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span lang="EN-IN" style="font-family:"Bookman Old Style","serif"">Born on May 17, 1951, in Tura, Meghalaya, he went on to make significant contributions to Nepali journalism, particularly during his time in Siliguri in the 1990s, where he served as executive editor of the widely read Nepali daily SunchariSamachar.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span lang="EN-IN" style="font-family:"Bookman Old Style","serif"">He also rendered his services in Gangtok as the editor-in-chief of Nayuma Television and later as the chief editor of the Hindi newspaper NityaSamay, thereby contributing to both regional media and multilingual journalism.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span lang="EN-IN" style="font-family:"Bookman Old Style","serif"">An accomplished poet, Chettri authored several notable works including ‘TurakaNepaliharu’, ‘AdimSadak’, and ‘UjyalokoDamitAakanksha’<a name="_GoBack"></a>. His writings, spanning poetry and prose, were published across various newspapers and literary platforms, earning him recognition among readers and the literary community.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span lang="EN-IN" style="font-family:"Bookman Old Style","serif"">“The Press Club of Sikkim acknowledges his invaluable contributions to journalism and literature and conveys its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
