of Anurag Singh Thakur, Member of Parliament, paid a courtesy call on Governor
of Sikkim, Om Prakash Mathur at Lok Bhavan here on Wednesday.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-family:"Bookman Old Style",serif">The
Parliamentary Standing Committee comprises seventeen other members (Members of
Parliament).<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-family:"Bookman Old Style",serif">During
a brief interactive session, chairman Thakur praised Sikkim’s exceptional
cleanliness, traffic discipline, and warm hospitality, a Lok Bhavan press
release informs.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-family:"Bookman Old Style",serif">While
interacting with members of committee, the Governor highlighted the resilience
of local communities in preserving their traditions and their deep respect for
nature.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-family:"Bookman Old Style",serif">The
Governor also mentioned the State government’s environmental initiative, which
promotes tree planting to mark the birth of every child.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-family:"Bookman Old Style",serif">The
Governor highlighted several key aspects related to Sikkim’s strategic
importance and socio-cultural development. He emphasized the significance of
Sikkim’s international border, particularly in the context of Nathu La, which
shares the border with China. He stated that Nathu La Day, observed on 11
September, will now be celebrated as Nathu La Vijay Diwas. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-family:"Bookman Old Style",serif">This
day marks the crucial role played by Lieutenant General Sagat Singh in
defending the Nathu La and Cho La passes against Chinese incursions, leading to
a decisive Indian victory in 1967.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-family:"Bookman Old Style",serif">He
also shared about the active participation of women in the development of the State.
The Governor further apprised the committee of the ongoing efforts towards
sustainable development in Sikkim.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-family:"Bookman Old Style",serif">On
this occasion, the commissioner cum secretary to the Governor, Jitendra Singh
Raje was also present and welcomed all the members on behalf of Lok Bhavan
