Delay Namgyal Barfungpa said that the primary objective of the initiative is to
facilitate ease of doing business by enabling traders in the Gangtok
constituency to address issues related to licence applications, renewals, and
waste management through the kiosk. He also assured that efforts would be made
to involve other departments in conducting similar exercises in the near
future.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-family:"Bookman Old Style",serif">Speaking
to the media, mayor Tshering Palden said that the programme, envisioned by the
Chief Minister, aims to bring the GMC to the doorsteps of the public, allowing
residents to raise their grievances and have their issues addressed. She added
that the initiative would be implemented across all wards under the GMC. “The
Chief Minister, PS Tamang, started this model of governance by taking the
government to the doorsteps of the people through visits to remote
constituencies. We felt that this initiative of the Chief Minister should also
be implemented in urban areas,” the mayor said.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-family:"Bookman Old Style",serif">Municipal
commissioner Gary Chopel informed that various sections of the municipality,
including the licence section, town planning section, solid waste management
section, and accounts section, had been stationed at the camp. The section
responsible for central government schemes was also present to enable the
public to avail themselves of the benefits offered under these schemes. “The
Governance at Doorstep programme helps the public overcome the mental blockade
of visiting the GMC office. It enables people to resolve issues related to
various services of the Municipal Corporation right at their doorstep,” he added.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing">
