<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-family:"Georgia",serif"><b>SILIGURI,:</b> Statues of social pioneers Baghbeer Gurung and Punyaprasad Pradhan were
unveiled on Sunday at Veer Jawan Chowk in Gurung Busty, Siliguri.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-family:"Georgia",serif">The statues
were scheduled to be unveiled by Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang
(Golay). However, he could not attend the programme due to prior official
engagements.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-family:"Georgia",serif">Among those
present at the event were Jacob Khaling, Political Secretary to the Chief
Minister of Sikkim; West Bengal Tourism Minister Shankar Ghosh; Cabinet
Minister Bishal Lama; MLA Sonam Lama; Gorkha Janmukti Morcha chief Bimal
Gurung; Indian Gorkha Janshakti Front chief Ajoy Edwards; Birendra Tamling,
Press Adviser to the Chief Minister of Sikkim; and several other dignitaries. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-family:"Georgia",serif">The programme
was organised under the banner of Bhanu Bhakta Samiti.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-family:"Georgia",serif">A souvenir
titled Chinhari-2026 was also released on the occasion.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-family:"Georgia",serif">The event was
organised to honour the immense contributions of Baghbeer Gurung and
Punyaprasad Pradhan towards the establishment and development of Gurung Busty
and Pradhan Nagar, respectively. Widely regarded as visionary community
leaders, both played a significant role in shaping these localities and
promoting the social welfare of the Nepali-speaking community in Siliguri.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span style="font-family:"Georgia",serif">Krishna Lama
(Pemba), General Secretary of Bhanu Bhakta Samiti, said the event was a
collective tribute to the enduring legacy of the two pioneers, whose
contributions enriched the social, cultural and literary consciousness of the
region. He added that the unveiling of the statues and the release of
Chinhari-2026 reflected the community's commitment to preserving its heritage
for future generations.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p>
